Meredith Hawkins, MD, and Preeti Kishore, MB, BS, of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, are investigating the role vitamin D plays in diabetes. In the past, research has linked low levels of vitamin D to insulin resistance. Based on their recent research presented in the December issue of Diabetes Forecast, the investigators have found that giving patients with insulin resistance high levels of vitamin D can be beneficial.
