Carlos Bernal-Mizrachi, MD

I was born into a family of physicians, including both my parents. My mother, who is a practicing endocrinologist in Cali, Columbia, instilled in me and my three brothers a passion for medical research and a compassion for people with diabetes. She has dedicated the last two decades to creating a foundation that provides underserved populations with therapies and prevention techniques for diabetes.

The driving force of my medical research is to learn how to control the suffering related to chronic medical conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Through my American Diabetes Association-funded research at the Washington University at St. Louis, I am working to find novel therapies to control these diseases.

Every day, my research works to Stop Diabetes. My hope is this research will help decrease the burden of diabetes and its complications such as cardiovascular disease.
