I am 33 years old and was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I went in for a yearly physical and complained of fatigue, numbness in my feet, and some dizziness. I did not suspect that anything was wrong with me. I just thought I was a tired mom and had a few aches to complain about. My blood tests showed that I had type 1 diabetes. I was shocked. I am 5’2” and weight 130 pounds and I have always eaten healthy and exercise almost daily.

As a working mom with two boys that I never really stop to think about all the signs and symptoms that I was having. I realize now the importance of stopping to listen to your body and taking the time to take care for yourself. I had a difficult time accepting this was true but I am now ok with the change and moving forward and living each day just as I did.

I still continue to exercise almost daily and this helps me feel great. Not only does it make me feel less fatigue I use less insulin. I also continue to eat healthy and limit my carb intake. I am currently involved as a research patient to hopefully help improve my health as well as contribute to the fight against diabetes.
