I lost my father and my sons lost their grandfather to the devastating complications of type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is hereditary and I am well aware this means an increased risk in our family and for my children. I have three energetic boys, and I want to stop diabetes because I don't want to lose another loved one to this disease.

This is why I support the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation. As a family, we made a commitment to help fund diabetes research in hopes of finding better therapies and ultimately a cure. I took our boys on a field trip to Dr. Ajay Chawla's lab and shared with them what our family had invested in and what the money is doing. It was a great opportunity to reinforce the importance of their own education and what Dr. Chawla's work could mean in the future. And based on the interest my children displayed, we may even have a future researcher in our family!
